The Digital Consumer

Recently, I had an offsite workshop with my team to revisit our activities, define the next priorities and improve team work and collaboration.

As in every workshop, we had several team building activities, and one which rang bells in my head. We decided to collaboratively create a team tune.

So, as you might guess, this wasn’t an easy challenge. We had initiated a collective team brainstorming session to reach our goal.

After intensive creative ideation, we agreed:

  1. Our genre will be Regatten Pop

  2. Our rhythm will be positive and upbeat

  3. Team members decided to be the music composers and each chose an instrument they want while I took the role of the producer

  4. Use the Apple GarageBand for conduction & production (this i...

“Days are long but years pass by!”

I love this saying because I experience it regularly, at work, at home, and now with this blog. 2 years have already passed since I launched the Digital Consumer blog and I am very proud to have released more than 20 blogs on various number of topics, all hopefully you enjoyed and has enriched your digital knowledge and life.

For this blog, I thought to share with you a list of books that helped me along the way in my personal and professional life, and of course had a good input to the topics shared in my blogs.

I wasn’t a big reader growing up. However, with time of ease of accessibility of various genre's of books and in this digital world, I became a big consumer of books in general and audio books i...

In a previous post, I mentioned that there are 3 kinds of problems a Digital Consumer experiences:

  1. Simple: like baking a cake from a recipe - few techniques that are repeatable

  2. Complicated : like building a car - multiple people & coordination but repeatable

  3. Complex: like raising a child, always a different approach required.

In this blog I would like to talk about the most complex challenge in our Digital consumer’s life: Parenting

Parenting has been over centuries instinctively learned by doing, definitely agile and definitely relied mainly on coaching & mentoring from parents and society. In the digital world, parenting has become much bigger and complex; as same type of parenting that worked in the past, in the pure...

So its been a while since my last blog and this is due to the fact that I have taken a new role, in a new company, and in a new country. And believe it or not it is not uncommon in this new digital era for people to make such a change; in fact research has found out that on average a professional would experience 2.1 similar changes (role, company and country - all at same time) in their lifetime.

I have been settling down, learning, and enjoying a new language, and getting to know a new culture.

Within my new role as well, I am now engaging way closer than ever with teams across the world, and we are, more than ever, required to work, collaborate and achieve results as global virtual team of teams.

Ever since the beginning of global e...

In today's digital world, digitalisation is entrenched completely in our personal and professional lives and we are of course benefiting enormously from it on a local and global level. It has made us hyperconnected, it made products and services globally available, economies flourish and information and knowledge available at our finger tips.

And in our digital world, as our physical world, with every expansion comes threats and vulnerabilities; and the act of identifying, managing and preventing those is known as "Cyber Security". Even though Cyber Security is triggered by the digital world, it is not only about securing the technology, but also securing people, processes and physical devices that use such technology and it must be a...

Have you ever been in a public place, an airport, a tube, or even a restaurant and you started smiling while looking at your phone and when you look up, you see people starring at you wondering what would have triggered this joy?

Well I had it recently at an airport but not because of something funny or personal, but something more geeky:

So what was it?:I smiled and sighed after realizing what I have digitally experienced at that moment in time.

For a reason I don't remember, while at the airport waiting for boarding, I had the thought to buy a present for my nephew's upcoming birthday. From that thought, I opened my iPhone using the Touch ID, clicked on Amazon App, started typing "truck" and the search offered me endless options, chos...

"Virtual assistant is a great job to help you with your family and your friend and you will have the best possible time to get to the next level of the day and the future of your life"

What the heck am I talking about?!?

This statement was created by simply choosing iPhone's automated suggestions and starting a text message with "Virtual assistant".  Yes, it does not make a lot of sense but already you can notice some autonomy, some logic and may be some intelligence.

So why am I mentioning this? Well for 2 reasons:

1- I would to clarify the current confusion around what a "Virtual Assistant" is.

2- As per a previous blog, artificial intelligence in the future will be conscious and emotional, so what does it mean to you now?

In simplisti...

"Don't even try to manage Millennials!"

An intriguing statement I read in one of the "Millennial" studies and is echoed is similar manner in others.

The fact is: Our personal & professional lives have simply changed, and this is not only for Millennials! Our lives are more digital, more global, more diverse and more virtual. At same time, our own expectations, our family's expectations and our business expectations and needs from us are also changing and evolving faster than ever before.

In all of this, we are playing leadership roles either at home or work and now more than ever leadership is crucial to drive the outcomes with an ever changing and fast paced digital world. Leadership in the digital age is not anymore confined to the...

The speed of change in Social platforms is immense and I don't think I am alone in the world who is finding it challenging to know "which Social platform should I use and when?"

In the digital world, more than 95% of interactions between digital consumers and digital enterprises are "humanless" i.e. Automated with no human interaction.

They find the page through a search engine or through another site link, they interact with the portal, possibly order something (if it is an online shop) and then receive an email confirming their purchase and further ones on the status of their purchase until it is delivered to their door (already some deliveries are delivered using drones).

However, across all the interaction points, the digital consumers are consistently interacting with content in various forms and through various channels. In addition, as we are all dealing with information fatigue, digital consumers will...
